School Projects and Workshops

Over the years I have been very involved with multiple schools local to me, whether this is the art club I have run twice a week for the past few years at a local primary school, or some of the various projects I’ve had at other schools.

That is what this page will cover, along with a little bit about each project.

Quilters Junior School Museum

Mr Wade the Headmaster commissioned me to create a historical timeline through three corridors. Complete with painted walls, ceilings, era signage and large wall-mounted sculptures to inspire the children to learn about history to be creative. It’s given them a greater understanding by following the timeline around the school, I learned a lot too! This is highly successful as the children often make artefacts and art to showcase in the corridors. The artefacts I created were: A T-Rex dinosaur, A Mammoth head with trumpet sound, A Medusa head (a mask was made of one of the female teachers), Emperor Hadrian (The Headmasters face was cast), Roman pillars, a Long Boat Dragon head, Big Big including chime, World War II plane in a Picasso style, Queen Elizabeth II painting using mobile phones and finally a Space Man.

Brightside Primary School Art Gallery

Mr Bulpett the Headmaster asked me to create an indoor art gallery to showcase the children’s work. I proposed for it to be an indoor woodland scene which went down well as the school badge depicts an acorn, I thought it would be nice to bring the outdoors in.

The enormous tree holds small sculptures the children have made and the twig frames host drawing and paintings the children have created. I added artificial grass, the children find this area very calming and are taken there to relax and read. Some children came to help me in small groups to make the trunks learning for the first time how to use plaster bandages and also helped me to paint using acrylic paints.

Wadey Bear Mascot for Quilters Infant School

Mr Wade has a mascot for his school called ‘WadeyBear’ – it’s an amazing concept that the children love. How it works is if you have a cape and a mask on it will give you super powers such as Bravery or Perseverance. There are seven different colours with their own power and children are encouraged to perform these powers in and outside of school and bring the story back to school to show and tell. The wall art I made shows the bear and his coloured capes. He is an inspiration to all!

School Workshops

As part of the King Charles Coronation Celebration event I was asked to host workshops to create board mural both the schools. It was great to meet the competition winning children. They were all very creative and enthusiastic about painting on a large scale.
